HISTORY AND BACKGROUND |

Rountree Printing & Graphics Consulting Services
is the out-growth of a lifetime of involvement in the printing, reprographics and
computer industries.
John Rountree began printing as a childhood hobby but pursued a career in
engineering and computer development. While maintaining his career, he opened
an offset and letterpress printing business in 1972. As a computer project manager,
he supervised the development of large scale billing, accounting and customer
service systems for several major corporations. He developed the customer service
and billing system for PSE&G, the third largest electric and gas utility in the
United States. This system is still producing over 125,000 bills nightly and supports
on-line customer service for 2.1 million customers.
For the same utility he managed the Reprographics and Copier department starting with a small copying group. He expanded it into a full service graphics organization with two Xerox Docutech networked publishing systems, two color presses, a four tower half-web press and complete finishing and mailing equipment, saving over $500,000 annually with no increase in staff. He was also responsible for managing the corporate copier contracts, under which he reduced the number of copiers 30% while maintaining service levels, and concurrently developed an aggressive internal electronic forms program.Rountree Printing & Graphics has consulted across a range of industries. Recent projects include working with a leading brokerage house and a national pharmaceutical chain to help them improve productivity, restructure the services offered, and increase client satisfaction while containing and reducing overall costs. By combining years of hands-on experience with state-of-the-art techniques, such as Activity Based Costing and Team Building, John is able to provide immediate quick-fix solutions and long-term strategic direction. John maintains his consuming interest in the graphics and printing industries and also collects antique handtype. His collection includes an operational 1850's vintage Washington handpress. He is an active collaborator with the Smithsonian Institute's Graphics Department and has restored and donated early printing equipment to museums across the country.
