ABOUT THE AUTHOR | ||||
John Rountree, the author,
has been collecting and shooting Civil War and vintage
firearms since 1956. His first interest stemmed from a trip to Bannerman's store
at 501 Broadway in New York City in 1955, and from that point on, he was an avid
Civil War and American military history student. He is not only a collector
but a firearms shooting enthusiast. He started by shooting flint and percussion round ball rifles and has participated in the North-South Skirmish Association for over 30 years on the 73rd New York Volunteer Infantry team. John is a Life member of the American Single Shot Rifle Association and has participated in long-range black powder shooting for over 20 years. He has shot in numerous matches out to 1000 yards, and competed on three occasions as part of the US team in Canada. John has also been a member of the Single Action Shooting Society for over 15 years. He regularly participates in cowboy action matches and is well known for his ability with his Navy Arms Schofield revolvers. He participates in Civil War reenactments. He is a member of the Seventh New Jersey Infantry Regiment, and serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the 2nd New Jersey Brigade. From a collecting point of view John has belonged to the New Jersey Arms Collectors club since 1957. He has served as president on two occasions and was voted a life member six years ago. In preparing A Reenactors Guide to Shooting the Rifle Musket, he tested 12 reproduction muskets with bullets from 28 different moulds. With his engineering background, John systematically recorded the results and has passed these results on in A Reenactors Guide to Shooting the Rifled Musket. |
