Historically, soldiers of both the North and the South
were supplied packages paper cartridges for their ammo pouches.
On average, soldiers carried 40 rounds in their ammo pouches
and an additional 20 rounds in their haversacks.

Cartridges were wrapped ten-rounds to a package which were marked with the
caliber, powder and ball contained in each cartridge

Details on making paper cartridges and the various loads
are available in the chapter "Making Paper Cartridges" in
"A Reenactors Guide to Shooting the Rifle Musket", Third Ed.

John Rountree, an expert in printing, and a collector of
antique type and printing presses, has recreated labels and wrappers
that were used to package paper cartridges used during the Civil War.
These products are ideal for use by reenactor, or for historical displays.

Printed on an antique printing press with type faces available during
the Civil War era, these labels and wrappers are accurate reproductions of the
ones used to package cartridges used during the Civil War.
